93 million tonnes of clothing is burned or end up in landfills every year = 1 garbage truck load every second

Less than 1% of used clothing material is recycled into new ones

How can we change this?

can't we just
donate our clothes?

Simply just donating our clothes is sometimes part of the part of the problem. Indirectly, we are contributing to the oh so convenient throw-away and forget it culture we live.

In fact, 84% of our donated clothings will eventually end up in landfills where it will generate upwards of 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 per year.

it's more than just a Bag

why not use a
reusable tote?

Unfortunately, it's not as easy as that. Sometimes the environmental impact of reusable bags outweigh that of its single use plastic and paper counterparts.

Many reusable bags will end up in the landfill as well due to the way they are made, making it harder and more expensive to deconstruct at the end of its lifecycle for recycling.

Furthermore, according to The Atlantic, cotton totes have "the highest and most severe global-warming potential by far".

So, what can you do?

just Bag It Up

By making simple bags out of used clothing, Bag It Up aims to foster a longer relationship between you and your clothes by renewing the clothes’ functionality and style appeal through the act of repurposing. This in turn keeps clothes out of landfills, saves you money, and teaches valuable making skills that would empower Bag It Up users to be able to confidently create and work with textile materials in the future.

The beauty in Bag It Up is in using materials most of us already have in our homes. It's super low cost, and highly customizable to your tastes and needs.
