The Satchel

Compact, quick, and ready for action. The satchel is perfect for carrying your daily essentials for a quick urban getaway.

What you will need

For this project, you will need a shirt, a buckle clip, at least 2 metres of webbing that fits the width of your buckle, scissors, needle and thread, binder clips, skewers, and your hand sewing template.

If you are sewing with a machine, you will not need a needle, and skewers

Turn your clothing inside-out

Cut along the perimeter of the clothing as shown above

You should have two halves of the clothing now. Save one side of the clothing as you will be able to make another bag out of this later

Fold the clothing so that the outside of the clothing is facing out

Using a hand sewing template or a machine, stitch a line along the clothing as shown

Readjust your clothing so that the newly stitched line is now in the middle, and keep it flat

Using two skewers, place one skewer in the back of the clothing and another one in the front so that they are touching. Then, roll up the top until you get a clean straight edge. You may need to cut some fabric to make it easier to roll.

Make sure to save all your scraps

Using binder clips, fasten the skewers into place

Fold approximately one third of the bottom of the clothing. See the next step for reference

Stitch the left and right edges to hold the newly folded flap in place

Attach webbings to the bag as shown. You may want to add 2 lines of stitching for added strength

You may want to add a buckle in this stage

Add a skewer where the bag lid folds down and fasten it with binder clips

Lastly, trim off any excess skewers and your bag is complete
